A TIMELINE OF SOVEREIGN KING CHURCH
 
05/03 – Gordon calls Amy and tells her that he is going to quit his job to finish seminary. He has no idea how they will make a living. He quits his job that day.
 
07/03 – Redeemer Presbyterian Church calls Gordon as their Assistant to the Pastor for church planting.
 
08/03 – The PCA’s Church Planting Assessment Center provisionally qualifies Gordon and Amy for church planting with the provisions that Gordon serve a two-year internship with Redeemer Church, graduate from seminary, and is ordained.
 
11/03 – Gordon earns a Timothy Fund scholarship through the PCA’s Mission to North America (MNA) fund. This fund helps church planters prepare for the field. Church plants repay this during their first five years to benefit other church planters.
 
07/04 – Eastern Carolina Presbytery choose the Garner, NC area for their next church plant and provisionally call Gordon Duncan as their next church planter dependent upon his graduation and ordination.
 
01/05 – Gordon and Amy Duncan attend Church Planter’s Basic Training.
 
05/05 – Gordon graduates from Reformed Theological Seminary.
 
06/05 – Gordon sets up an office in Garner, NC with a folding chair and card table in a room full of other people’s boxes.
 
06/05 – Gordon preaches for 6 weeks at Christ Our Comfort as they look for a pastor.
 
07/05 – Gordon passes his ordination exams and becomes an ordained minister for the gospel.
 
08/05 – Gordon and Amy move to Garner, NC.
 
08/05 – Bushiban Coffee Shop hosts a 6-week “See Jesus” study. 
 
10/05 – Sovereign King Church begins partnering with Elliot Grudem and Christ Our Comfort (now called Christ the King) by meeting together as joined congregations. This partnership lasts for 6 months seeing both congregations growing.
 
01/06 – Sovereign King’s first home study begins and meets for 3 months. The study consisted of a look at the early church in the book of Acts.
 
4/09/06 – Sovereign King has its first worship service at CenterStage Dance Studio in Garner, NC.
 
10/06 – Sovereign King begins meeting at the Garner Lions Club.
 
10/06 – Gordon becomes the Garner Police Chaplain.
 
04/07 – Sovereign King celebrates its one year anniversary of services.
 
05/07 – Sovereign King moves into its new home at 140 Donmoor Court in Garner.
