The Sirens are:
(left to right)
Marnie Black, Communications Countess, one of five native New Yorkers among the Sirens, hits all of the high notes, and is one of the top spin doctors (a.k.a. PR) for MTV. Growing up, Marnie sang professionally in venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. She gave it all up in college and has been singing for pleasure ever since.
Rachel Wallins, Gigging Goddess Extraordinaire, (and the only pictured blond) is a New York transplant from Moscow, Idaho (not too many people can boast that!). She works in the dairy department at MTV where she is a big cheese in charge of all things relating to Organizational Development. She's also a gifted cellist, a not-so-gifted pianist, a frankly unfortunate trombonist, and the official Sirens comedienne. In her spare time, Rachel volunteers as a wedding planner and circus clown, and reads no less than forty-five entertainment magazines daily.
Jamie Weisberg, Duchess of Diggity (No Doubt), a native of Long Island, who managed to escape the accent, Jamie started singing professionally at age 7 (remember the "My Little Pony" commercial?), while writing, recording & performing her own material from the age of 9 to the present. She's also had the amazing opportunity to sing with Duran Duran, Roberta Flack, Michael Bacon, & Yoko Ono. She's been involved in musical theatre productions through high school & college, two a cappella singing groups (The Trinitones of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and 10fm for about 2 seconds), as well as The New York Choral Society. After graduating from college with a BA in Music, she got into the advertising biz, and has been there ever since. So when she's not using her HR
powers to whip her employees into shape, you can find her at the gym, the bar, out with girlfriends, playing with her cat, Loki, or all of the above.
Randi Stanley, Viscountess of Virtuosity, a native New Yorker by birth who moved to Florida at the ripe age of 3 and has probably met everyone’s grandparents in the Sunshine State at some point. She’s been singing in all female a cappella groups since age 16 and has dabbled in piano, music theater and concert choirs in between. She worked at major record labels for a few years, and now is in the midst of her quarter-life crisis to seek the perfect career as a freelancer in marketing and writing. She also runs NYC A Cappella, an arranging service.
(Our next two members in the photo have sadly departed Sirens, but there's one more fabulous member far right...)
Yeraz Markarian, Baroness of the Beat, yet another native New Yorker among the Sirens, currently works in cancer research and is studying for a PhD in Psychology. She has enjoyed singing from a young age, and participated in an all-female college a cappella group, the Barnard Bacchantae, as a "bass". Yeraz loves hitting the low notes, enjoys being the "absent-minded neurotic" of the Sirens, and likes to dazzle audiences with her rendition of "Fame" on the piano.
Not yet pictured, but just as wonderful, are our newest Sirens:
Lizy Dastin, Empress of Energico, a So-Cal lo-cal, just received her M.A. in Art History and is now trying to find a museum that will barter their money for her knowledge. After graduating from Wellesley, Lizy found herself for the first time in ages a cappella-less so she began dueting with the drag queens at Lucky Chengs to quench the thirst. She's so excited to return to her "doom doom" roots and looks forward to practising her Siren skills--luring sailors to their demise through sultry sound.
Allison Lasky, Marquesa of Musicality, another native New Yorker, is thrilled to be singing a cappella for the first time with the Sirens. Allison sang throughout high school and college in musical theatre productions and many classical choirs. After graduating from Indiana University, Allison moved back to New York and became a music teacher. Although Allison loves singing children's songs all day with her students, she is so happy to finally be singing with adults again!
Natalie Pascarella, Pastoral Principessa, grew up in central Pennsylvania, also known as the land of cows and cornfields, before attending college at Syracuse University in upstate New York. Having recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, she moved to Jersey City, NJ in order to be close to the Big Apple. Natalie has been singing since childhood, annoying her family by belting a little too loudly around the house, as well as participating in many school choir programs. Before joining the Sirens, Natalie sang with the Syracuse University Mandarins, one of the University's first all-female a cappella groups.
