Sizzlin Hip Tips w/Christina King
Sharp pops, strong locks, and gooey, snakelike mayas are only the beginning! Take a closer look at your hipwork and learn some variations on the basics that will expand your hip movement vocabulary. We will also work with leveling and traveling while doing hip movements and creating hip-intensive movement combinations. A yoga mat is recommended.
Tribal with a Stick with Christina
Tribal with a Stick - Stick it, Tribal style. What happens when you take a traditional folkloric prop like the Saiidi stick and tribalize it? Add in some mischievous undertones, Vaudevillian shenanigans, and lots of playful panache and you've got an act that pulls from several different traditions while creating a whole new dimension to your tribal dancing. Some dance sticks will be provided, but it's the cheapest prop you'll ever have to buy! Just purchase a 3/4 inch dowel rod at your local hardware store, cut it to the height of your belly button and get ready to play!
Rhythm ‘n’ Zillin’ in Tecumseh
In this dynamic workshop you’ll learn to identify the most common Middle Eastern rhythms and explore how to accompany those rhythms with your zills! Learn to play triplet, beledi, straight runs and more…then couple those patterns with challenging hip, torso, and traveling drills! Sonja will follow up with tips for using zills with veil, shamadan, and candle tray.
Bad Girl Bellydance w/ KayLouise
Bad-Girls-Belly-Dance "Something wicked this way comes..." A seductively wicked choreography. Slow... Sultry... and positively snake-like. You know the quote... "Well behaved women seldom make history!" Warm up ahead of time if you need it. Bring water or any inappropriate beverage!
Veil Poi with Donna Diva
For the dancer who wants to take veil skills to the next and newest level, this class will teach the basic techniques needed to perform this new fusion of Polynesian poi twirling with the addition of a standard 3-yard silk veil. Participants will need to bring their own 2-1/2 to 3 yard SILK veil and their own poi. A limited number of poi (poi cords with weighted ball) will be available for purchase at $10/set. If you would like to purchase a poi set, please reserve yours by emailing Donna at: donnadiva@sbcglobal.net
Oriental Combinations with Lana
How to Improv with Lana
"Once Upon A Belly Dancer" - Mesmeric's Masterpiece Belly Dance Theatre Presents... 1/2 hour private performance/choreography critique with KayLouise
What's your story? What image do you convey to your audience? What message do you send during a performance? Whether or not a dancer is aware of it, EVERY performance sends a message, even if it is emotionless and empty. Become more aware of your body language, facial expressions and the minor details that can drastically alter the story you tell with your dance. Every piece of music has a story and this one-on-one will help you find yours! Bring a cd of music you have been dancing to or are preparing to dance to. Participants need not be "performers" to enjoy the creativity of this workshop! One-on-one time is the perfect opportunity to find mistakes you don't even realize you are making! Beginners and first time performers are welcome also! Be prepared to take notes. Scheduling times now. Email with the time you would like. $35/half hour - Soloists - $45/half hour Troupes.
