Space Planning
The first priority in transforming a room is to optimize the spacial arrangement of the existing furnishings and accesories. In order to do so, an ergonomic science can be applied, as well as a strong intuitive sense of arrangement. Creating a floor and elevation plan in scale is an excellent way to visually understand the space one is working on. In addition, to illustrate new design ideas, existing furnishings can be created to scale and then manipulated in the floor and elevation plans. Of course, in some cases, if the furnishing and the flooring are managable, the pieces can simply be rearranged until the best formation is discoverd.

Color Harmonization
In general, people respond similarly to color. For example, the color red stimulates the appetite, while the color blue supports an atmosphere of relaxation. However, as we well know, each person is unique, and so the color of a room may enhance or restrain a pesons' natural quality. So, color must be carefully considered in order for a person or people to achieve a feeling of balance in a room. For example, a person who is high-strung may choose to be in a space that promotes relaxation, just as someone who is naturally lethargic may want to be in a space that stimulates activity. In other words, if a person would like to feel relaxed in their bedroom, one would avoid colors like red and yellow, and instead choose blues, greens, or other "softer" colors.

Once the primary color of a room is choosen, the "support" colors are easier to select since the primary color will dictate the remainder of the palette. Currently, there are many excellent visual sources that display hundreds of wonderful color palettes. I utilize these sources as they are fool-proof and they assist in creating beautiful spaces.

Wall and Window Treatment Design and Accesorization
Wall treatments, Window treatments, and accessories complete a room and make it unique. There are many considerations such as personal taste and how much light and privacy is desired in a room. As in space planning, sketches and rendering can be made to illustrate design ideas so that the best choices can be arrived at.
