Koa Wood Hawaii

Koa Wood Hawaii Chris Allen and Dan Kurtz (my brother inlaw) are Koa Wood Hawaii, here at Koa Wood Hawaii we make koa bowls and fine woodturnings from over 40 different Hawaiian woods and many others from around the world. We also sell Hawaiian woods like koa, mango, milo, mac-nut and lychee and many more.

Chris has been turning for 30 years and Dan has been turning for more than 20 years and in this time they both have honed their skills so they can make just about anything on the lathe, they can turn bowls up to 4 feet 8 inches down to 1/4 inch in diameter. Their imagination and attention to detail is reflected in there work which has been sold in fine galleries in Hawaii, North America and Europe, they also have there work in many private collections around the world. Just to name a few collectors who have our work are Keali'i Reichel, A. Lono Lyman and Alexander Brody.

We use mostly fallen trees and trees from tree removal services and we also replant trees like Koa, Kou and Sandalwood because Hawaii is an Island and when the wood is gone it is gone so we must replant, also Hawaii has more rare and endangered trees than anywhere else in the United States.

We make many different shapes and sizes of woodturnings everything from miniature dollhouse style bowls 1/2 inch in diameter to very large bowls up to 4 feet in diameter, we specialize in Hawaiian style calabash bowls and replica's of old Hawaiian bowls and coconut turnings.
