I am Chris Allen of Koa Wood Hawaii, here at Koa Wood Hawaii I make koa bowls and fine woodturnings from over 40 different Hawaiian woods and many others from around the world, I make a lot of other things too like book marks, letter openers, chopsticks, boxes and many other items.
I also sell Hawaiian woods like koa, mango, milo, mac-nut and lychee and many more.
Chris has been turning for 30 years and in this time he has honed his skills so he can make just about anything on the lathe, he can turn bowls up to 4 feet 8 inches down to 1/4 inch in diameter. His imagination and attention to detail is reflected in His work which has been sold in fine galleries in Hawaii, North America and Europe, he also has his work in many private collections around the world. Just to name a few collectors who have his work are Keali'i Reichel, A. Lono Lyman and Alexander Brody.
Koa Wood Hawaii is a green and envrionmentaly friendly company. We use mostly fallen trees and trees from tree removal services and we also replant trees like Koa, Kou, Sandalwood ond other endemic Hawaiian plants and trees because Hawaii is an Island and when the the Hawaiian eoc system is gone it is gone so we must replant, also Hawaii has more rare and endangered trees than anywhere else in the United States. Koa Wood Hawaii is proud to be replanting a diverse Hawaiian Forest in Kau, not only Koa but many other endemic Hawaiian trees and plants, this will be a model for other micro eco systems in Hawaii, we will them expand these micro ecosystems to form larger ones
Chris can make many different shapes and sizes of woodturnings everything from miniature dollhouse style bowls 1/2 inch in diameter to very large bowls up to 4 feet in diameter, he specialize in Hawaiian style calabash bowls and replica's of old Hawaiian bowls and coconut turnings.
