Colors, Coat Types, Breeding
IT ALL SEEMS CONFUSING WHEN ASKING FOR A CERTAIN GENERATION OF THE LABRADOODLE

I WILL TRY TO MAKE IT SIMPLE AND CLEAR

AS THE LABRADOODLE WAS PRODUCED IN THE 70'S BY AN AUSTRALIAN MAN WALLY CONRAN HE BRED A LAB AND POODLE IN HOPE FOR NON SHEDDING ALLERGY FRIENDLY DOG FOR A DIASABLED LADY IN HAWAII. THE ORIGINAL LABRADOODLE WAS A LAB & POODLE
Standard size

IN THE LATE 80'S DAUGHTER AND MOTHER TEAM STARTED DEVELOPING WHAT YOU CALL THE AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE, WHICH IS CALLED A PURE BRED NOW IN THEIR COUNTRY. THEY IMPORTED LOTS OF DOODLES TO US TO WILLING BREEDERS

THE DEVELOPMENT OF LABRADOODLES WITH THEIR KENNELS WERE NOT JUST LAB & POODLE BUT A MIXTURE OF 5 DIFFERENT BREEDS, SUCH AS: WHEATEN TERRIER, COCKER SPANIEL TO REDUCE THE SIZE, RETRIEVERS, WATER SPANIELS ? AND MORE

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE AUSTRALIAN AND AMERICAN LABRADOODLE IS THAT ALOT OF AMERICAN BREEDERS CHOOSE TO FORGET ABOUT THE INFUSION OF THE 5 BREEDS AS THEY DID AND DO PRESENT HEALTH ISSUES. THE COCKER SPANIEL HAS LOADS OF EYE AND SKIN AND HEALTH PROBLEMS AS SO DOES THE WHEATEN TERRIER. SOME OF YOUR US BREEDERS HAVE BOTH THE AMERICAN LABRADOODLE & AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE INFUSED NOW WHICH IS A GOOD THING BECAUSE INTRODUCTION OF THOSE 5 BREEDS
DID OR CAN CAUSE HEALTH ISSUES. THE COCKER SPANIEL IS NOT YOUR BEST CHOICE FOR A CHILDS PET, THEY DO NOT TOLERATE CHILDREN VERY WELL.

HERE AT BAY LAKE LABRADOODLES WE WENT TO THE ORIGINAL BREEDING OF LAB & POODLE THE TWO BEST DOGS YOU COULD ASK FOR AND NOT ONLY JUST ANY LAB BUT ENGLISH BRED, CALM, LOYAL AND LOVING NATURED. WE HAVE THREE AUSTRALIAN BRED DOODLES HERE THAT WE ARE INFUSING BACK INTO THE AMERICAN LINES TO PRODUCE GREAT FLEECY COATS, LESS POODLE COATS KNOW AS WOOL COATS.

We do not use the Cocker Spaniel in our Breeding Program, too many health issues and temperment to not what we are looking for. The Australian Doodles we have are not infused with Cocker and its important to know the difference.

WHILE WE RESPECT & LOVE ALL DOODLES AMERICAN & AUSTRALIAN OUR BREEDING PROGRAM IS ABOUT ENGLISH BRED LABS AND ENGLISH CREAM GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

ALOT OF THE AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE BREEDERS ARE HAVING TO INFUSE AMERICAN BRED NOW AS THE THE LINES ARE LIMITED. and the lines have had health issues, too many of them

ALOT OF PEDIGREES ISSUED TO THE AMERICAN BREEDERS BY THE AUSTRALIAN BREEDERS HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND NOT CORRECT IN DOING SO, THIS PRESENTED A BIG CONTROVERSY I MUST SAY AND ONLY THE BREEDERS ARE AWARE OF IT AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS NOT

If you are considering a Labradoodle you have the right to know the facts about previous breeding practices

I do want to see American Bred Labradoodles without 5 different breeds and cocker spaniel bred into the mix. The less breeds mixed into this dog will create a healthier & better temperment. This is my opinion and my vets opinion and we strive for the best of the best.

I have also sold Labradoodles to people that have children of course
and I am honest about the cocker spaniel introduced in the lines and
being child friendly, two of my buyers
gave their Australian Doodles to family members with no children as they both did not tolerate children and did bite. One child ended up in emrgency room with 7 bites,You will not find a biter in the American Bred lab and Poodle Doodle

I hope this inforamtion is helpful and will let you know what a Doodle is made up of American or Australian, it is helpful when choosing the right family pet.

COAT TYPES & GENERATIONS:

1st Generation Puppy Doodles are born looking like little Lab pups and begin developing Doodle hair around 2-3 weeks old. Ears will wave up and hair will become wavy & shaggy coated

2nd & 3rd and some Multi Generation will be fleecy coats & curly . Some can take on the Spiral coat and wool coat. I prefer teh Fleecy soft coat myself

Hybrid Vigor"

" When you breed two Pedigreed Dogs of different BACKGROUNDS, SUCH AS THE LAB & POODLE, you get what is called Hybrid Vigor, like crossing two plant Rose plants to create Diease Resistant Strains. You must start out with Two healthy dogs of course and tested dogs, but the chances for life threatning illness obvious in Pure Breds today, is very low. Not to say a mixed breed dog can not gets things, but there have been some medical studies proving mixed breed dogs possee
less health problems. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE OVER BRED THE PURE BRED DOG AND IT HAS CAUSED CANCERS AND ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS.

Be Sure you ask about testing of our dogs and our concerns for the Best of the Breed like the English Lab and Standard POODLES WE USE FOR OUR PARENT DOGS.

Labradoodles got their start in Australia by the Royal Guide Dogs. There was a lady in Hawaii that was blind and needed a Guide dog, but was hesitant to apply for one because her husband was allergic to dogs. So the guide dog manager named John Gosling agreed to breed the first Labradoodle guide dog and achieved a non shedding, allergy free, highly intelligent, family loving breed of dog.

I have alot of people ask about personalities of Labradoodles. They want to know if a Labradoodle is more like a Poodle or more like a Labrador. But what I tell people is I see alot of the same traits of Personalities in both dogs so its hard to say. A Labrador loves people and is easily trained and loves to hunt and be in and around water. A Standard Poodle is highly intelligent and easily trained and also loves water and is very people friendly. Both Labradoodles and Poodles can be Family protectors, in the sense that they will bark when a stranger approaches but they are friendly once their owner tells them its o.k.

Labradoodle Coat-Type

Hair Coat- F1 ( Shorter, Wavy , Shaggy) Shaggy Looking or wispy Eye Brows, Beards and can resemble a Benji Type Dog or commonly referred to as Sandy in Little Orphan, this is normally your 1st generation, your 1st generation can also be straight coat like a Lab and look like a Lab puppy with very little shaggy appearance. They can have some shedding and or not. I have all types of hair coats in the 1st generation puppy. This is your wash and wear dog, no grooming required except brushing. May or may not shed.

Fleece Coat F1B or F2 or F3 ( can be between Shaggy and Loose Curls). Soft and the coat is not tight like the Poodle wool coat, but looser and will need some grooming and brushing, but not as intense as the Poodle or Multi Gene Labradoodle. Breeding is Labradoodle to Standard Poodle 75% to 25 % Lab. Rarely Sheds and is good for allergy sufferers.

Wool Coats & Fleecy Coats( Multi Generation OVER 5 GENERATIONS) like the Poodle Coat and can be looser curls than Poodle and not as intensely tight coat. Resemble more of the Poodle look and it is hard to tell a Poodle from a Doodle in a multi. A lot of grooming and content attention. Your percent is high with Poodle genes-it has not been proven that the multi generation Labradoodles are not 99% Poodle and 1% Lab.

Recently, in 2004, the name Australian Labradoodle was used to describe the lines of multigeneration Labradoodles with long pedigrees, some dating back to the two kennels in Australia who started breeding them in the early 1990's.

COLORS:

Descripton:
Black
Depending on genetic background colors, Blacks may show silver white hairs throughout face and body.
Silver

Usually born black, Silvers are unusual in that they can take a while to develop .

Cafe/Chocolate
Born brown, Cafes grow a golden coat with coloring that lightens as it nears the roots. Some chocolates will eventually turn Cafe. Even a true chocolate will appear Cafe due to golden highlights, but their roots will remain chocolate colored.

Cream
From Apricot Cream to Gold to Chalk, Creams vary greatly. Some Creams have dark ears; others have golden highlights.

Apricot

True Apricots are the color of a apricot.

Red Labradoodles are beautiful and hard to bred some Reds will fade over time.

Caramel
Caramels are rare. Caramel coloring involves the entire hair to be one color jsut as it states Carmel in Color.

Parti Colors:

Black & White or Brown & White, just beautfiul I say. Some people do not know that the Original Poodle in 1500-1700 circa was originally a Black & White Poodle. Breeders culledthe litter, meaning they killed off the two colors to produce only Black or only white, in the 70's a breeder in US brought over some and began re introuducing the Parti Poodle, which was wonderful. They are not recognized in the Show ring, even though they were original Poodles ( PUDEL they were called )

Characteristics:

Known for their outstanding intelligence, trainability, low allergy coat, low to non-shedding coat, and lack of doggie odor. They are slightly heavier than the Standard Poodle. They have an overall balanced body with a slightly longer than square build. There are three coat types: Flat, Wavy and Curly; Curly having the best non-shedding qualities.

Black, Chalk, Carmel,Creams, Apricots, Chocolate, Café au Lait and Silver, Parti Colors, Reds oh those Reds

Temperament:

This breed loves human company and excels as a companion for those with disabilities, visual impairments, young children, and the elderly. They are very trainable and get along well with other dogs. They will attempt to outfox their owners if they are not properly trained and disciplined. The Labradoodle is incredibly loyal to their family and makes an excellent watchdog. They adapt well to different situations. They are content to run along with you, or join you for a relaxing reading session.

Grooming Requirement:

The flat and wavy coats need very little grooming. The Fleece or curly coat requires regular grooming and should be clipped two to three times a year. Frequent bathing is not required as their coat repels moisture and dirt.

" Our Doodles are placed in homes where people are looking for another member of their family and not a backyard dog"

thank you and I hope my information on Labradoodles wil lhelp you understand the coat types
