WE TEST OUR DOGS :
Here at Bay Lake it is of the utmost importance to us, that all of our Breeding dogs be tested for the following before we even attempt to breed one of dogs :
OFA
This is a Hip and Elbow test used prior to breeding specifically to address: Carpal subluxation, Elbow dysplasia, Epiphyseal dysplasia, Fragmented coronoid process, Hip dysplasia, Hypertrophic osteodystrophy, Multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, Muscular dystrophy, Osteochondrosis, Osteogenesis imperfecta, Patella luxation, and Shoulder dysplasia.
Eye Exams
This eye exam is used to identify 20 possible disorders including: Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), Cataract, Coloboma, Dacryocystitis, Distichiasis, Ectropion, Entropion, Epiphora, Glaucoma, Hemeralopia, Iris atrophy, Lacrimal duct atresia, Lens luxation, Microphthalmia, Optic nerve hypoplasia, Pannus, Persistent hyaloid artery, Persistent pupillary membrane, Retinal detachment, Retinal dysplasia.
We only breed dogs that pass this test with a result of normal.
CERF – Canine Eye Registry Foundation
PRA
PRA is a hereditary group of diseases that cause the retina to degenerate slowly over time. The disease results in declining vision and eventual blindness. “prcd” stands for “progressive rod-cone degeneration” which is the type of PRA known in several breeds.
This is a hereditary disease, therefore, we pay careful attention to be sure that we only breed dogs that won't produce PRA affected puppies.
Complete Blood Chemistry (CBC) and Thyroid
This is a Blood Chemistry Panel (CBC) and a thyroid panel to screen for initial signs of: Addison's disease, Chronic progressive hepatitis, Diabetes mellitus, Factor VIII deficiency or hemophilia A, Factor IX deficiency or hemophilia B, Factor XII deficiency, Hemolytic anemia, Hemophilia A, Hemophilia B, Hyperadrenocorticism or Cushing's disease, Hypoadrenocorticism, Hypoglycemia, Hypothyroidism, Lymphocytic thyroiditis, Thyroiditis, von Willebrand's disease.

Asked Everyday what is Difference in Golden Doodle or Labradoodle ?
If either is American Bred they can be hyper active from field stock and usually are. Consumers today are being told by Golden Doodle Breeders that Golden Ret. is less hyper than Labradoodle. NOT True if you are buying an English Bred labradoodle known for being Calmer temperment
The English LAB is less lankey and weedy looking legs and Shorter and more compact. Blocky heads and otter tails. Good English Bred Labs are tested for Hip & eye problems that are common in Labs.

JUST A PET
"We only want a pet" This phrase is heard so often. I think what most people do not understand is that "just a pet" has to be as close as possible to the written breed standard as the show dog. The most important thing that makes a good pet is over all good health. This includes mental health (good temperament and personality) as well as physical health. For good physical health a puppy needs a strong immune system. Proper structure and movement are also neccessary so the bones and joints do not develop problems later in life (such as hip dysplasia or loose patellas) .

Visitors Information :
When researching how to choose a good breeder, most puppy buyers
will come across articles saying that visiting a breeder is a necessary
step in choosing a good breeder. The implication is that breeders that do
not allow visitors are lower quality, provide less customer service, or
have something to hide.
Personally, we feel that most of those opinions were arrived at decades
ago, and have not been adjusted to the current state of canine health.
Parvo virus did not even exist until the late 1970's, and has only become
an epidemic in the last 10 years. This virus is deadly to young puppies,
who are in the delicate process of being weaned from their mother's
immunity to this contagion, and developing their own immunity to it.
There is a period of time during which they are very vulnerable, and
exposure to this virus causes vomiting, diarrhea, and ultimately death. It is impossible to treat in young puppies and uniformly fatal....whole litters are usually lost if one puppy contracts it.
